Following the eat well plate is the best method to ensure that you are taking all the nutrients in proper proportions to maintain a healthy weight.

The eat well plate is the United Kingdom’s national food guide which is designed to help the citizens have a healthy and balanced diet. It provides a visual representation of the foods that you should be eating each day as well as the quantities and although is based on the government’s advice.

The percentages for the eat well plate are the following:

Fruit and vegetables: 33%

Fruits and Vegetables plays very important role for maintaining healthy body. According to eat well plate you should add plenty of fruits and vegetables in your diet. Fruits and vegetables are rich sources of vitamin and minerals.

According to the world health organization, if a person is taking at least 400g of fruits and vegetables, he/she will develop less chances to suffer from various diseases like cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, obesity and stroke.

Bread, roti, paratha, rice, potatoes pasta and other starchy foods: 33%

Carbohydrates are the main source of energy in the body. Bread, rice, cereals, grains, potatoes are rich in their carbohydrate contents. According to eat well plate carbohydrates should make up about a third of the food you eat.

While choosing the food items rich in carbohydrates always prefer the whole grain varieties.

Milk and other dairy products : 15%

Milk and dairy products are an excellent source of calcium and proteins and other minerals. Calcium plays an important role in bones and teeth development however protein is required for growth and repair of tissues and cells.

Meat, fish, egg, beans and other non-diary sources of protein: 12%

These foods are rich source of protein. Protein is incredibly important for fat loss, muscle building, flawless skin and beautiful hair. Protein is one of the basic building blocks of the human body. Muscle, hair, skin, and connective tissue are mainly made up of protein. It helps your muscles repair and recover. It helps fill you up. You won’t feel hungry for long time. It also helps you get ‘flawless’ skin and ‘healthy’ hair.

Foods and drinks high in fat or sugar: 7%

Always try to avoid consuming fat laden and high sugar foods. Too much fat in diet results in high cholesterol level and can lead to heart diseases and obesity.

The eat well plate is suitable for everybody with the exception of children (usually under two years of age), because of difference in their nutritional needs. However it is recommended for all people ranging from four year kid to adults.
