Everyone who trains is an athlete.

If you want to be successful athlete then find what the most successful athletes are doing and keep doing it until you do it as well as them.

Here are the keys to success based on what the best athletes are already doing. If you emulate them, you may get more out of your training program than ever before.

1. They don't afraid of their weaknesses.

It is easy to focus on what is easiest or what you are best at. But if you are serious about being the best, you need to maximize your strengths and minimize your weaknesses. For example, if you don't like working out your triceps, make that a priority.

The best athletes don't focus only on what they are good at. They make sure to train everything in the gym to see the difference on the field. They don't skip certain exercises because they don't like them, nor do they ask for alternatives.

2. They cultivate a growth mindset.

Success is bred from a growth mindset. Greatness is not about how an athlete deals with success, but about how they deal with failure.

All athletes ultimately fail at some point, but the best ones are prepared to fail and have the tools to recover and thrive. Failing fuels intensity and drives them to dig deeper and get better.

3. They don't seek shortcuts.

Those athletes with the physiques you admire have, dedicated decades to achieving it. They have dedicated so much of their lives to training their body for maximum performance.

Don’t give up if you don’t find yourself looking rock hard after a few weeks or months. If you make this about the journey, you will enjoy the struggle. You will celebrate any tiny change.

4. They are consistent and disciplined.

Consistency means more than completing all of your workouts. It applies to your entire approach to training. They are consistent in their attendance, effort and dedication to getting better. Discipline is never out of fashion.

5. They focus on the skills.

The reason elite athletes are better at their sport than the rest of us comes down to the one major factor is simply the time spent practicing and honing their skills.

Sachin Tendulkar was introduced to cricket at age 11 and he was just 16 when he became India's youngest Test cricketer. This boils down to one thing that he has just spent more time playing the game than everyone else. In effect, he was playing against beginners the entire time.

If you are a runner, run. If you’re a swimmer, swim. If you’re a lifter, lift. Don’t try to turn yourself into a lifting-runner-swimmer and then scratch your head why you aren’t fast anymore.

6. They know where they are, where they want to go, and how to get there.

The best athletes move from one goal to another in order to maintain interest. If you find yourself lost in your workouts, give yourself a clear goal. Like adding 50 pounds to your squats and then set yourself a reasonable time frame. Make commitments to yourself and then stick with them.

7. They don’t try to reach their physique goals by cutting Calories.

The best athletes out there view food not as something to be restricted but as something that can be used to get your body to perform its best. Food is a way to fuel work and build and maintain the muscles. Focus on nutrition, not on cutting calories.

8. They don’t obsess over their abs.

If you want to look like an athlete, you need to be one. Athletes don’t worry about carving out perfect abs, the work they are doing to increase their performance gives them sic packs abs naturally. Stop obsessing, start working to improve performance and you’ll get there.

9. They surround themselves with people who are better than they are.

Competition can be a good thing. But what happens when you are the ‘best’ at the gym? Expand your horizons and find people who challenge you to be better. Don’t be afraid of failure, use it to push yourself forward toward your own individual needs. The best way to reach a new level, is to surround yourself with people who are already at that level.

10. They Learn From the Pros.

All activities have various things that seem like secrets to the outsider. Like hook grip in weightlifting or bare foot running to runners. These things exist so athletes can perform their sport better.

11. They constantly seek out new information and develop a broad knowledge base.
